There are always comrades in life.

Whenever you believe no one cares, you’re wrong.

Its funny to believe that in a world filled with millions to billions of people, you’re alone. That none of them care about you.

That line of thought in general is irrational. It’s statistically impossible, because your single life in one way or another has affected the lives thousands of people.

Yet this irrational line of thought is one that I kept returning to in my anxiety.

I understand and I constantly remind myself that there are many people that care about my existence.

There are many people that care about your existence but you’re just not aware.

When you’re in your darkest place, in your black hole of emotions there will always be someone there, there will always be someone that will notice. Someone that will ask after you. Reach their hand out to you. Someone to be your real friend, your place of sanctuary, your family.

It is mine, and also your job to notice the people that care. The longer you stay in your isolated little bubble of depression, thinking that no one cares about you is the longer you ignore the people that actually do care and are there for you.

Recently I started my first year of University and I’m facing the challenges of undergraduate life. Being seperated from my friends and family led me to periods of weird anxiety because I was feeling inexplicably lonely and pitying myself because I felt that I had no friends and that even If I did they didn’t care. Those kinds of negative thoughts were making me tired and sad.

I don’t like being sad or tired, I like being the positive person that makes others laugh. That refreshing breeze on a summer morning or the comforting moonlight on the darkest night. That is the type of person I want to be. Someone reliable.

During this recent Month of University I have made many friends, I have met amazing people and they noticed when I was feeling down. They noticed when I was feeling ill. I have smiled brightly and have remained positive.

They cared.

My lifetime bestfriend messages me, my family calls me. I am not alone.

I know I am loved.

There will always be people around me and around you, that will care. Knowing that they’re there makes me so much stronger.

It may seem dumb to write down ‘you’re not alone’, ‘someone cares’, as it seems so obvious. Yet actually it’s a fact so easily forgotten.

Remember you’re loved.

Have a great day xxxx

My blackhole of feelings.

Do I actually have friends, I used to wonder this.

The same people that say they are my friends will exclude me from things, hang out amongst themselves and then when confronted they’d make excuses. When I thought I’d left one set of friends that made me feel this way I ran into another set of people that did the same. Leaving me trapped in my anxiety.

I can’t help but wonder, am I only an accessory to them, just someone they can have around to hype up their evening. When I’ve made them feel good and happy they forget about me. They use me for their own convenience.

It’s especially hard when one of them only uses you to moan about their feelings, never ever considering that you too may have feelings. Never considering that their words may make you upset and tired from their self-centred and contrived actions.

Am I really a human being then? Perhaps I am not. Perhaps I am just another fleeting thought. Perhaps I mean nothing to anyone.

I try to stay positive. I tell myself I’m fine, I have a family that loves me, isn’t that enough? I try hard in my studies, I always do my absolute best no matter what, isn’t that enough?

Yet why do I feel like there is a black hole where my heart should be. I want to cry but no tears come from my eyes just waves upon waves of panic.

I want to be loved by everyone, does that make me attention seeking? I want to be friends with everyone, I try so hard to be the positive and happy person but that only makes me come off as weird and awkward and embarrassing, right?

I have no one to talk to. Or more like I’m too afraid to directly talk to anyone. I’m worried they’ll think I’m seeking attention, I’m worried they’ll continue to ignore me.

I have spoken before. I have told people my feelings.

Yet I just get hit with “Babes I wasn’t doing that.” or “If you’d just told me I was making you feel like that I would have done something different.” or “Don’t worry about that I’m here for you.”

You don’t understand. Those words don’t reassure me. Instead they make me feel expectant. They make me believe in you more, value you more. So that when you fail me I feel 10x more disappointed, isolated and neglected.

I will probably never tell you how you’ve made me feel or what you did. To you its likely something small. Like not talking to me for a day or a week because you assumed I was ‘busy’, hanging out and making plans without me, not messaging me.

To you my feelings are secondary.

I’ll probably bottle it inside and the next time you see me I’ll smile. I’ll never let it on that I’m hurting that you’ve made me feel like utter shit. Because I am the type of person that bottles emotions inside. After I mention it once I seldom mention it twice.

I feel trapped in my mind in a shell of constant worries and most nights I can’t sleep because of it. The insomnia makes me tired, my anemia increases that tiredness and the anxiety puts me further on edge, yet I’ll still smile at you and act like everything’s okay. When it isn’t.

The only person that made me stable that removed these concerns was my sister, but now that we’re separated I feel myself going off the deep end. I don’t want to bother her with my problems, I miss her deeply.

I’m hurting. I want a hug… I want a lot more than that… I want some type of help…. That’s what I’m asking for in actuality. This is just one big cry for help that isn’t directed at one single person, but actually all my friends.

These are my feelings.

Sad thing is, I know none of you actually care that deeply, or check up on me, it’s unlikely any of you will ever read this other than random strangers or my close family…do I have any real friends?

Beneath Black Blood- Chapter 11

What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

—-Oscar Wilde—–

Chapter 11- Leadership

Mex Cillian

“A leader! Me!”

“Yes you!”

I couldn’t help but sigh “that’s way too much pressure. Being a leader sounds like so much effort.”

Cal burst out laughing, “You took that well. I thought you’d be panicked or something. Only you would react this way to being told you’re the leader of an entire species”

“Sorry for being weird.” I retorted, “but you only said I was one of your great leaders, right? That means there are others that share my responsibility right, so I shouldn’t be that worried. And I think I’m pretty awesome, memories or not I’m certain I would be an awesome leader.”

Cal who was still chuckling to himself commented, “That’s some strange confidence you have, but I guess you’ve always been like that. I don’t know why I thought you would change.” He grabbed my cheeks and ruffled my hair, “Same face, same hair, same strange personality. Yep you’re the same Mex I know.”

As he spoke his face was uncomfortably close to mine and I felt my cheeks go red and my hear race. I coughed, “What about you, aren’t you a leader too?”

“Me!” he exclaimed pointing at himself, “Man, no way. I’m not powerful enough or old enough for that.

“How old are you?”

“That’s a really rude question you know.”

“Was it—”

“It was.”

“Only old farts say that.”

“Well I guess i’m an old fart then, but you’re an even older old fart you know.”

“Damn, then I’m basically a shrivelled up old corpse.”

“What on earth are we even talking about?”

“Your age.”

“I know that but… we veered off course, we were supposed to be helping you understand our situation.”

“So help me understand then.”

“It’s impossible to talk to you seriously.”

“Well sorry!”

Our weird banter continued for a while until I heard the howl of something in the distance and I felt my skin crawl and I inched a bit closer to Cal.

“What was that?”

“A mutant.”

“What are those?”

“You could call them evolved humans. The products of human destruction.”

In the moonlight Cal’s illuminated face beheld a melancholic expression. “The war started the war because we couldn’t negotiate with humanity. We wanted to reclaim our lands and then turn Earth back into its former paradise and heal the human race. But they misunderstood and resisted. They saw us as monsters but we were nothing of the sort. Many of our species went insane with anger because of this, decided humanity was beyond redemption and went on witch hunt to wipe them all out.

Of course humans have always been quick to adapt, and before we knew it we were the ones being hunted. All the negotiations and peace you were trying to build before crumbled and we became the enemy.”

He held my hand and squeezed, “Mex as an immortal, one of the oldest beings living on this Earth, you have the power to destroy humanity entirely. When I was more foolish I begged you to do this, to use the power you were gifted with to kill them all. However you told me that ‘you can not stop destruction with destruction’ and as the war went on and our side suffered along with theirs, I realised more how right your word were–”

“But if I’m a Leader, and this power why can’t I stop the war?”

“Because you are very peace loving, Mex. The rest of our species decided that they would fight an all out war with humanity. You did not. So together with other allies we disappeared. We are neutral.”

“So I am no longer a leader—”

“You are! You’re my leader, and their leader as well, if they stopped being so foolish. If they only understood.” He began crying. “It’s so frustrating.” He wept, his warm tears falling on my fingers and disappearing with a spark. I pulled him closer to me and hugged him. Rubbing his back slowly.

“Are we trying to stop the war.”

“Yes… Peacefully…”

“What are our aims?”

“To convince our race to stop fighting…to negotiate with the humans.”

“Why did I lose my memory?”

Cal’s tears stopped and his back caught alight with blue flames, they didn’t burn me but they felt hot, and angry. “You confronted one of the leaders… One of your old friends. It allowed us to halt this war momentarily…but the cost.”

“Breathe…explain this slowly.”

Tia Kyoya

I walked back to the operations chamber only to see the technical crew and the builders at work, but no Timothy.

I walked up to Matt Spithy, one of the best techies around, and also Timothy’s best mate. “Hey” I greeted him “Have you seen that brat around.”

“You mean Tim?” said Matt who was feverishly writing something on a tablet. “I asked him to flick a switch for me five hours ago. He did it and he never came back.”

“Five hours ago. What’s the time?”

“It’s 22:41, that’s weird Major Kyoya you’re usually pretty organised.”

“Oh I just didn’t check is all.” I replied quickly but was quietly shocked. I hadn’t realised I had been gone for five hours whilst talking to Ashley. I felt disturbed.

“Well if you see him again tell him I’m looking for him.”

Matt yawned,”yeah I will.”

I walked off and towards the living quarters of the facility. Jogging soldiers went past and saluted. I nodded in return. As I turned towards a corridor to my own living area I saw a grim faced Timothy leaning against the door to my room.

His eyes shifted towards me.

“Tia, we need to talk.”

Chapter 11, yaay. Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been busy. Will post more frequently starting next week.

Chapter 10- Human Nature

Mex Cillian

As I opened my eyes I could see that the sun was no longer up and the burgundy moon hung in the black sky like a devils eye. Dust swept around us, only when it settled did I notice the derelict building in front of us; it was a grey old complex that looked like it would topple over at the winds slightest touch and break into millions of tiny pieces.  Half of it was sunk into the ground and the other half looked like it was clinging to life. It was pitiful.

“What is this place?” I asked Cal, who was stretching, panting heavily, his breath crystalising into ice.

“Geesh, that took a lot out of me.” Cal moaned, looking up at me, “This is our temporary shelter, it isn’t some swanky hotel, but compared to some other places I’ve seen, this is a paradise. We need to lie low while we’re still in Human territory.” Cal reassured as he saw the wary look I was giving the building. “We’re only staying the night until the sun comes up; some scary things come out when it’s dark so it’s better not to travel right now, trust me.”

“What kind of scary things?”

“Believe me, you don’t need to know. Now that you don’t have your memories it’s better that you learn these stuff gradually. Some things are just too disturbing for words.”

I nodded and began heading towards the entrance or what I thought was an entrance but in reality just some gaping hole in the side. Cal jumped to his feet and jogged to catch up.

“You know.” Cal said. “This place used to be a shopping centre, not only here; all of this wasteland used to be one gigantic city district with massive buildings and houses everywhere. It used to be the place to go… People used have a lot of fun here.” He muttered the last part under his breath, so I only just heard it. “But then of course that isn’t the case anymore.” He grumbled angrily, kicking the dirt. “About 100 years ago this place became a nuclear war zone, I think it was some dispute between countries, I don’t really care. All I remember is seeing crowds of people and the next everyone was gone. We only just made it out of there.” Cal kicked a big rock, that was twice the size of his head- may I add- and sent it flying. “And do you know what really makes me mad?!” Cal continued I nodded although I think it had been a rhetorical question. “Is that that stupid government, that dumb police, The Capital and their stupid hound dogs, think they have the right to blame us for all the things that they’ve done. They blame us for all their wars, their casualties, their dumbass mistakes. And they think that by killing creatures like us the world will become some happy place. Sometimes people are just so stupid.”

He fumed for a second, and went silent, but what he had said raised my curiosity. First off 100 years ago, I knew I was probably older than I looked and I had lived for a long time but seriously. I had so many questions I wanted to ask Cal.

We made it into the ‘building’ which was no better than the outer appearance, but it was definitely more comfortable than outside at least, well anything was more comfortable than outside. Cal settled on the ground, leaning against a brick wall that was chipped and looked ready to collapse, but Cal didn’t care. I did the same. Plopping down right next to Cal. I opened my mouth to ask him the questions that we all probably wanted to know yet he spoke before I could.

“There are probably a lot of things you want to know right.” Cal started, his sharp blue eyes staring at me with some scary intensity. “Well I’ll tell you, but it’s kind of a long story. So just be prepared to stay up all night.” He paused, and I shuffled into a more comfortable position whilst he rummaged in his jacket that was hanging around his waist and tossed me a large bottle of water. Where had he been keeping it? His jacket must have been bigger than I originally thought.

As I drank, Cal began talking again,“You’ve probably figured out that I’m not human and that the same goes for you, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Let me begin telling you that there are two sides.”

“Two sides.”

“Yh. The Humans and Us.” He sipped some water, “We are nicknamed by the Humans as Creatures of the Abyss. That’s because they claim we came out of nowhere, that we are the origin of all evil…Of course we aren’t though, that’s just Human propaganda bullshit. Keeps all the other humans under control, makes them think they have a common enemy. That’s why Humans are dangerous and incredibly hostile to our kind. Even their police force will butcher us on contact. If I hadn’t come in time their police would have definitely made you suffer.”

“They were the police force?” I was surprised, for some reason when I thought of police I envisioned hard working earnest people fighting for justice and they definitely didn’t look like it. Cal just nodded sadly.

“Yeah, it makes me so depressed about what society is like these days.” Cal sighed, “Don’t ask any questions anymore Mex, I told you this is going to take all night so wait until after.” I gave him an apologetic look and Cal coughed and then said, “Our kind has been around a lot longer than humans have. Humans egotistically believe they own the world because they have the superiority in numbers and in the past they built tall buildings and advanced states. Due to a treaty made long ago, called the Yggdraisal treaty, many of our kind decided not to meddle in Human affairs. We lived peacefully with them in coexistence. However humanity is a destructive race by nature, that are selfish and sceptical. Each civilisation they built, each empire would eventually crumble and fall given enough time. Our race used to stand by and watch as they caused their own senseless destruction, however that all changed when they began destroying the Earth along with them.” I was entranced by Cal’s words and leaned forward as I listened attentively. “They made weapons of mass destruction, they made biological weapons that spread diseases and famine, they polluted the water and the air, they destroyed the world that we shared together.” Cal’s eyes seemed to reflect the horrors of war and his purple and blue flames began to spark around him. I wondered what tragedies he had seen. “Because of this many of our own kind struggled to survive. Spirits and nymphs of nature that belonged to the forests or the rivers, our friends died one by one.” As he spoke I felt growing emotions of anger, frustration and sadness.

“Our species were always kind to the humans and never gave them trouble, allowed them to reign over this Earth, and that was how they repaid our kindness. That’s why the leaders of our race decided that we must go to war and put the humans in their place. 11.03.2389 was the day the war began.”

He grabbed my hand, “Mex, you are one of our great leaders.”

Timothy

“What is this?” I asked as I felt the floor shaking with some strange vibrations.

Fallen winked at me, “Oh that is the fun job I have for you.” she turned from me and began walking away, “Aren’t you coming Timothy.”

“Ah! Yes!” I yelped and followed her like the dog I was.

Half an hour passed.

Fallen and I had been walking through endless corridors and I was beginning to feel wary of. I honestly didn’t care what kind of job Fallen wanted me to do, I trusted one of the greatest warriors of my era, but for some reason I was feeling unnerved.

I didn’t like it; I didn’t like the vibrations I was feeling under my toes. Harmonious waves. I could hear each buzz in my ear as if little fairies were singing in it. Damn fairies, just thinking of those Abyss pests made my fingers twitch, wishing I had my gun at hand. What was this?

“What is this?” I finally aired my thoughts.

“This is a state secret.” Her sexy voice was filled with seriousness, “Imagine this.” She said, “What if you could change time, or become invincible or open a pocket dimension and hide all your deepest darkest secrets inside.”

“I don’t understand.” I breathed, she patted my back.

“Bear with me.” She said “This is the weapon we have been developing, one that can give us an advantage over the Abyss.”

“An advantage…What do you mean?”

Fallen smiled viciously. “What if we could mimic their abilities, those of the abyss.” Her eyes glimmered with fanaticism, “Yet more than mimic them, we could rewrite history itself and eradicate the Abyss entirely.”

“How would that be possible…unless…the experiments the labs said failed…succeeded.”

She smiled at me, “You’re one intelligent boy Timothy” I couldn’t tell whether she was mocking me or not, “Yes what if we re-wrote this world. There are many versions of earth, different dimensions with people that share the same souls as us but have lived out entirely different lives. We have been developing a method to access these worlds using knowledge we have gathered from Abyss creatures. With this we could reset the Earth, take away all the problems. We could go outside without masks or heavy gear.”

She reached out her arms like she was seeing this dream in front of her.“When the scale broke a few hundred years ago, the monsters came and attacked us. Now we will bite back, we will avenge our fallen comrades.”

“You sound just like Tia.”

“You mean Major Tia Kyoya.” she laughed, “Oh we most definitely share the same ideals. However the one I need right now is you, Timothy.”

As she said that we walked into a bright cavern and I saw the most bewitching sight. There were blue, pink, and green lights that danced and swayed, they burned like fire and yet weren’t hot or cold. It was vibrant, constantly changing colours. And at the Centre of these things was a rock of ice; it was transparent and inside of it I could see a man. No an abyss creature, his hair white his skin deathly pale. For some reason it reminded of the Abyss creature that escaped from our base earlier, I think its name was Mex. Yet unlike Mex it’s white hair was so long it wrapped around it body, and it had strange rainbow coloured markings on its body. It was naked, in the fetal position and frozen in the ice. It was the source of the vibrations.

Fallen gazed at it, she stared at it with disgust. She despised it.

“It is called Sync. It was the first creature of the Abyss humanity ever came into contact with. It is one of the three immortals that we know of.”

“Immortal!?”

“I’ll explain it later. But he is the creature that has all the answers to defeating the abyss, and you are going to help me find these answers.”

“Me! But..But how?”

“You will link with it.”

“Link?!”

Chapter 10!!! yayy 🙂 Dear Readers do tell me what you think of the story so far. And also which side are you on. Humanity or the Abyss?

Some pretty Art & Beneath Black Blood- Chapter 9

When I was 14 and I started writing Beneath Black Blood I had my best friend draw some character designs for me because I was set on making it a Comic or Manga one day.

The one with blue hair is Cal Hyder, the one with red hair (inspired by MCR’s Gerard Way) is Ashley Barnett, and the one on the bottom left is Mex Cillian. In my imagination the design had a kind of Devil May Cry vibe going for it. I think now I would do the designs a bit differently but don’t you think my friends art is awesome.

Chapter 9- Innocent love

I told you once; I told you twice; I told you once again. You said you could; you said you would not do the thing again. I tell you no; I tell you, go! Don’t let it be in vain!

Mex Cillian

Cal and I had only been travelling together for a couple of hours, but I could already tell what kind of guy he was, or maybe it was my suppressed memories telling me what I already knew. Either way, during the course of our journey I came to realise that he wasn’t as kind as he seemed. Sure he was a vibrant lively character, which seemed to just enjoy being there, yet he was calculating and cautious at the same time. Always wary of his surroundings. There was something icy underneath, like hard steel, a black cloth wrapped around his heart. Cal was like a sheathed sword, I was scared and aroused by him. I felt a latent curiosity for him in general. I wanted to investigate Cal as a person, even if I had known everything about him before, it was a different story now. I wanted, and he was the answer.

I smiled to myself and Cal raised his eyebrows inquisitively, something glimmered behind his pretty blue eyes, and it made my smile bigger. I was enjoying myself more than I could express. I wonder why?

“You should stop what you’re thinking right now!” Cal called to me,

“What do you mean by that?” I asked, but Cal just made a mysterious knowing smile, and I rolled my eyes at him, making him giggle. As soon as he turned his eyes away from me, I was boring holes in the back of his. I knew he could tell exactly what I was thinking. He was analysing every little detail. Sometimes he was generally pleased by seeing me, but other times those eyes were like ice.

“You should watch your step, what we’re walking on is really an abandoned town covered in sand, the ground can collapse at any second .” Cal called, he was already way ahead of me, at least 10 metres, and I’d been so caught up in my thoughts I forgot to pay attention to where I was going.  I stepped forward; confused by what he said, and suddenly the floor gave way.

It cracked beneath me, before I knew it I was falling into an empty black abyss. My stomach lurched. I instinctively reached out and flung my body towards the surface of the hole but I was only able to grab the crumbling edge. I couldn’t see but it strangely felt like I was holding on to glass, glass that was cutting deep into my fingers. I cried out, as I felt the glass like material go so deep that it nearly sawed my hand to the bone. I held on regardless, I had experienced more pain than this.

Even so, that didn’t matter to my body how much pain I had suffered before, my hands were turning numb, my senses dying, my grip failing me. I knew I only had seconds, so I began attempting to pull myself up, but the platform I was holding on to crumbled and I was thrown into the darkness of the hole. I began to despair, but then a hand was holding me around the waist, and in barely any time I was on the ground above. I breathed heavily; relieved to feel the rocky hard ground beneath me, glad to feel that scathing sunlight on my pale skin. I lay there crumpled, trying to catch my breath. Cal was attentively pulling tiny pieces of glass from my bleeding hands.

“Thank you.” I whispered, Cal looked up at me, his blue eyes were tearful.

“Don’t thank me.” He said, “I’m no good at all, I’m useless Mex, if I had been quicker than you wouldn’t have hurt your hands. What kind of friend am I?  It’s just like…like last time.”

Bright, big tears fell from his eyes, and his hands shook as he pulled the glass from mine. I looked at him. We must be good friends I thought. I wasn’t sure what ‘last time’ referred to but I knew he was sad because of me. He wasn’t my enemy, any prior suspicion I had of him faded away. I pulled my hand from his and lifted it to his face, so that he could watch it miraculously heal like all the rest of my wounds somehow did.

“That was nothing Cal, the only time you should be crying is if I die.” I smiled. “And that isn’t going to happen any day soon.” He grinned at me and we both ended up laughing, laughing at ourselves, laughing at each other.

“Oh Mex.” Cal chuckled, wiping the tears from his face. “You never change you’re still the same old Mex that I know.”

“Well I wouldn’t know about that. I wonder what I was like before.” I said, standing up, looking up at the sinking red sun on the horizon. “I think we should get out of here, the sun’s going down, and if being here in the sunlight is giving me the creeps then I’m terrified of what this place will be like in the dark.”

Cal nodded, in agreement and stood up. For a weird moment we just looked at each other, then before I knew it Cal had grabbed my hand and we were flying. Purple flames surrounded him and it was like I was in a different world, a world of flashing colours. His purple flames whirled around me and they didn’t feel hot or cold, they felt like emotions. They smelt sweet, yet looked bitter, tasted like fresh water, yet it burned. Somehow I understood these flames. In these flames reality was separate, I felt alive in his flames, and they weren’t unnatural or strange. It seemed appropriate, like a disparity in space, it seemed out of place. I found myself welcoming the flames embrace and in barely anytime I was enjoying myself. I closed my eyes.

Thank you for reading. Stay Tuned!!! 🙂

Chapter 7- Grey Undertones

Mex Cillian

I was suddenly in a yard; the air was stifling, intense, thick, and heavy. I could see heat waves lingering around. I gasped, shock making me claw for air- however I was the only one- as the man next to me instantly began pacing. Glancing nervously around himself,“We need to get out of here, quickly.” he muttered.

He turned towards me, looking at me but not really seeing me. “This is mutant territory isn’t it?” he thought aloud, “I must of messed up. Damn it. Then why aren’t they attacking?” He again looked left and right but seemed to be puzzled, yet when his eyes met mine a mischievous smile came over him. Like a little kid finishing his first puzzle. “I didn’t realise you had control even in these territories Mex, but I should have known, so that’s why they aren’t attacking” His grin became even wider as he looked at me.

“Who are you?” I asked apologetically, “I feel as if I’ve known you for a very long time, I feel like we are best friends, it’s like an answer’s at the very tip of my tongue yet I can’t recall anything?” The boys smile became dimmer, and there was this dark, bitter look in his eyes, “Well I’m not surprised.” He murmured, not really talking to me but more likely himself, “With what happened back there its lucky you’re alive, or maybe not lucky since you’re not one that easily dies.” His smile reformed, and brighter than ever. He grabbed my shoulders. “But you were expecting it, weren’t you Mex? If I recall you said ‘the day this ends, I will remember.’ Or something like that I think. Man, you are one sly fox.”

“What?!”

“And you’ve even lost your memory like you said you would.”

“I said what?”

“And you’re so confused, it’s just adorable.”

“Huh!”

“Personally I didn’t think you had the guts to wipe your own mind, but you sure proved me wrong.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about, if you know something then explain!!!!!!!!!!!!” I exhaled loudly, “Man you’re one stressful guy.”

His grin grew wider

“What’s your name anyway?”  I asked.

“Cal” he said, “Cal Hyder”

“That’s one awesome name.” I complimented “I’m Mex, Mex Cillian.”

His grin grew again- impossibly big, “I know.” Cal laughed

Tia Kyoya

“What the hell was that?” I shouted above the sound of creaking timber, gaining the attention of one of the bewildered subordinates. As I began rebooting systems an attractive young man with stunning green gold eyes, came up to me, shuffling on his feet like an embarrassed puppy.  I instantly thought wimp!

“State your name.” I commanded in my normal superior tone, I liked making these men know who was boss.

“Ashley Barnett sir, I mean ma’am. I just transferred to section B server team ma’am.” I rolled my eyes, great, poor Timothy, getting a fresh newbie wuss who was probably going to die soon.

“So you’re one of Timothy’s subordinates then.” I drawled, feeling suddenly bored, “What do you want?”

“Miss, I just transferred from headquarters, and I have some vital information about the man who just infiltrated our base and the one that rescued him.” Ashley was suddenly standing straighter, alert, a clever gleam playing in his eyes – making me rethink my original opinion on him.

“When I was first assigned to the Syndicate I was working as an information broker in service of the capital.” He explained. “One of the subjects I came across during one of my investigations was that man.”

I smiled at him- finally something concrete- and he smiled handsomely in return, eager to be useful.

“Tell me more Mr Barnett.” I purred.

A smarmy smirk came over his face- which ticked me off, “I’m sorry, Lady Kyoya, however this is confidential information,  I can’t just tell you right off the bat, not without clearance from headquarters first. I mean you could contact the High Command, with your status you’d surely get the information, after some time.”

That little punk was bargaining with me. But he was easy to read, just another pawn of the Capital, terrified of getting kicked out. He wanted a recommendation.

I leaned in closer to him, and murmured in his ear, “I’ll surely let the higher ups know about your astounding capability and efficiency in the next report Mr Barnett” In front of him I took out my tablet and found Ashley’s profile on the server and began adjusting his ratings. “With this I’m sure you’ll become a Lieutenant in no time.” Like a dog getting a bone, he looked happy enough  to wag his tail- obviously he didn’t- but he stared up at me with a strange expression of respect. Pathetic.

He cleared his throat as he watched me put my tablet away and began “The creature who broke through the wall was a member of Abyss, quite a high ranking one at that, his name is Cal Hyder. The Capital has been trying to track him down for a while. He is quite the terrorist.” This raised my eyebrows,“What is this creature’s connection with the one he rescued?”

This just made Ashley smile wider,“Oh that one.”

“Yes the one with white hair, he said his name was Mex Cillian”.

“Oh he’s something else entirely.”

“What do you mean?”

“We have records of him, at least going back a few hundreds of years.”

“What!” I exclaimed drawing in unneeded attention.

Out of the corner of my eyes I could see Timothy re-establishing our shields. Good, things were getting more stable again, if that gaping hole had stayed open any longer who knows what monstrosity would of been lying in wait, readying itself for an attack. The computer system I was working on began rechecking the links on our support units and outputs, the lights re-flickered on. ” CIM restored” echoed the cybernetic voice through the chamber” many of the workers cheered and patted each other on the back.

While everyone was distracted I grabbed Ashley by the shoulder and dragged him out of the chamber and into the long grey corridor beyond it. The pathway everyone nicknamed the path of reckoning.

“He’s an immortal!” I exclaimed.

“Yes and no ordinary one at that, he’s a leader, Cal Hyder is his subordinate.”

“Is he the only immortal we have to deal with?”

Ashley grimaced,“Sadly we have three immortals to contend with, Mex is just the leader.”

“What” I breathed, I felt the blood rush to my head and suddenly I was very lightheaded. “How come no one was informed about this?” I asked quietly.

“Because.” Ashley whispered, “We already have enough trouble as it is, High Command thought people knowing that the immortals were more than just a myth would cause unnecessary uproar.” he sighed. “It hadn’t really mattered before as the immortals kept to themselves and hardly ever intervened in conflicts. Mex is the only immortal the Syndicate has some knowledge of but, we barely know anything about them.”

I glared at him,“So tell me what we do know.”

Ashley coughed, “Well, that’s a hard task.”

Timothy

I looked around to see that my sister was no longer beside me, Liz had disappeared as soon as that monster escaped. While I was controlling the situation Tia had also ditched me. One minute she was there the next she wasn’t- typical- she’d abandoned me to do all the work.

Ten or more minutes later the official technician came, my old mate Matt,“Thanks for finally making it, could you not go faster or something.”

He gave me an annoyed look,”I’m sorry O-great-Timothy, should I go back and attempt to come even faster for you.”

“No it’s fine.” I hurriedly replied, for a second we looked at each other seriously but then a second later we were laughing.

“Man.” Matt whistled,” When I got called I wasn’t expecting this.” He began expertly readjusting the systems then analysing the damage on the gates.

“Yikes!!” he exclaimed, “You’re lucky that the shields came back on, or anything could have come in here, and don’t get me started on the radiation.” he looked at me seriously.

“Honestly, your systems are screwed over, it’s like the thing that broke this down used an EMP bomb. You’re going to have clear out the entire side of this building while I get my team to conduct repairs.”

 I nodded “Understood, how long?”

“48, going on 72 hours.”

I groaned “That’s going to be a big job.”

“It is.” Matt sighed. “And I’ve already got my hands filled with the corridor in sector five, the crew and I are still conducting repairs, we were held back because they needed to clear all the bodies.” Matt made a face, “All those bodies were just gruesome, seriously what were you guys fighting?”

This time it was me that gave Matt a face, he sighed. “I know, I know, it’s out of my damn jurisdiction. But, for once I wish you would give me answers, that way I could sleep at night easier.” I again I felt sad, all this fear and hate because of those damn creatures, I hate them, every day people suffer because of the world they ruined. I looked up at Matt and asked, “Is there anything I could do for you?” Matt thought about it for a while,

“Ummm, you could go to the flick generator.” I gave him a puzzled look “It’s the big transformer in the basement of the complex, all I need you to do is flip the switch on the side. It will make all residual and unnecessary power strengthen the shields while I’m working. Usually I’d get some other grunt to do it, but going to the basement is also out of my damn jurisdiction, so since you’re offering.”

“Ok.” I laughed, giving a mock salute, as I walked away Matt yelled at my back.

“Make sure you go to generator RF5, it’s the one for this side of the building.”

I waved to him to as I walked.

“Don’t forget.” he shouted.

“Whatever.” I yelled back.

Tia Kyoya

“First of all I am going to tell you some serious revolutionary info here.” he stated “I want you to forget everything you’ve ever thought, or thought that you knew.” Ashley commanded. “Because all of that is wrong, nobody really knows what is going on. Even you Miss high ranking officer.” His eyes smiled, he was mocking me again.

“So tell me then, Mr. Barnett, what is this revolutionary info that you apparently know?”

“You could also say this is obvious information. Even you know it, you just don’t want to admit it. Yet everything is obvious when you look in-between the lines.”

I frowned at him, “What is that supposed to mean?”

“It means, that everything is a lie, the Capital is a lie, and the 11/03/2389 catastrophe was also a lie. Everything that this Syndicate is aiming towards is a lie. You’re just a soldier, a chess piece in their game. You found out that the Creatures of Abyss were your enemies and you accepted it as fact, you hate their guts because you have no one else to blame. But the truth is a lot scarier Miss Kyoya! I wonder; do you even have the guts to know the truth?” His voice was cold, barely any expression, yet his eyes had the glint of madness.

But what he was saying didn’t make sense, nothing he said answered my questions about that Cal Hyder or Mex Cillian. All he had spouted so far was just random conspiracy. Conspiracy theories that could have me killed for treason against the Capital if we were overheard. I gave Ashley a baleful stare, I raised my hand to reprimand him, but just as I was going to tell him what I thought he started laughing. A slight chuckle that raised his chest and made his mesmerising eyes sparkle, “You are such an idiot.” He said, “Let me show you something, okay” he grabbed my hands. And for a second- just a second- a second that felt like a millennia; the world around me was warped from everything I knew.

It was at that point when I felt panic, he was also a Creature of Abyss, shit!

Here is the start of Part 2, where the story starts to pick up. In this segment we’ll learn about the plot: The war between the Humans and Creatures of Abyss, the dystopian modern world, the disruptive ecosystem, the relationship between the characters, and the various conspiracies.

Stay tuned!!! 🙂

Chapter 6- Reunited Again

Green is a damp, sad and sour colour. Constantly depressing, filling every corner of the room. A colour that hid violence but promised death. Again I saw green; again I saw that colour- that was strangely becoming significant- as I became suddenly conscious in ice cold water.

Three figures stood in that colours shadow, surrounded by others huddled and masked. Lab equipment and chemicals littered the tables whilst other machines lingered on the walls. Coils upon coils of wire draped around as hissing snakes, and dark shapes flitted around whispering for a soul.

In the epicentre of the room was a chair, it was electric wired, submerged in water, and currently attempting to kill its host. I was the host, the current unfortunate soul they were torturing.

The chair was pulled upwards from the water container, slowly upwards towards the figures staring faces, leaking with its icy liquid as I came into contact with oxygen. They stared at me with similar expressions of disgust. It pleased me that all I could do was return a hearty grin.  They had brought me to this room and began torturing me, interrogating me, looking for answers. ‘Who are you?’, ‘What are you intentions?’ blah blah blah. The only question I could answer was my name. That was the only thing I knew.

One of the figures in the shadows scowled at me. It was the woman from before. The one with beautiful blonde hair and striking features, her eyes loathed me; they were almost as scary as Liz’s eyes- almost. She growled as she looked into my shaking figure, her rubber gloved fingers caressing my trembling cheek that was coursing with more than 20 volts.

The way she touched me, the way she looked at me, the way she hated me. It was so very intense. In the face of her anger I smiled at her simply because I wanted to antagonise her further.

She chuckled in response, but not in a nice way.

“So your happy, are you? Pleased with yourself after all you’ve done?” She spat at the ground behind her.

“Answer my questions.” She demanded. I almost cried, they’d been asking me questions over and over again, but how could I answer when I didn’t know the answers.

She wanted answers when I had no answers.

“Why are you here? What do you want?”

“Want?”

She gave me a baleful look, “Stop denying it, in this room we all know you’re a monster in human form.” she waved her arms to display the room (or what I’d call the torture chamber)

“We all know you’re up to something, we will not stop until we learn what it is and then under the code of Vengeance we will have you slaughtered in retribution for our fallen comrades.”

I scowled at her, so basically if I talked they would kill me, if I didn’t they would kill me. There was no reasoning with this woman.

“You’re one of the creatures at the centre of the human disaster. Our organisation, the HFA, have tried and failed to destroy your species many times, struggling to defend our borders against your kind. Even if you’re winning the war don’t think we will bow down to your kind and let you waltz into our borders. I personally have a vendetta against you.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I said honestly, but honesty only received a sharp slap from her gloved hand. A slap hard enough that my front tooth audibly snapped. Blood dribbled down from my mouth and she smirked again, continuing to speak again as if it hadn’t happened.

“What species are you? A vampire? A ghoul? Perhaps some type of demon?”She interrogated. “I know this pain is nothing to you” she muttered bitterly as she watched my tooth visibly grow, healing itself, in front of her. “Our rising sea-levels, devastating pollution, and lack of resources. This current doomed world, is all due to damn monsters like you!!! All because you monsters created an atmosphere you could thrive in!!” She accused me, yet didn’t look at me, looking instead at the ceiling with a dazed expression.“Since the start humans were always being manipulated by you monsters, since the start!”

Her glazed expression went cold.

“Then there was 11.03.2389” she breathed, drinking in my now puzzled face.

“Do you really not know anything?” she purred, with her hands on her hips, her gaze empty.

No, not empty, insane.

“How can you not even have a conscience?” she asked“You look so human so perfectly human.” her hand began to stroke my cheek again.”Yet you aren’t your evil, bloody evil!!!’ she shrieked, exclaiming her words.  At the end of her sentence she drew a broad sword, it glowed strangely blue similar to all the weapons that I was helpless against, she spun it in her fingers. “May our brethren be avenged!!” she hissed

At that moment instead of fear I felt intense anger welling up inside, Every word she said was wrong. I felt it. Lies, lies lies!!!

As her sword point pricked my skin…

There was an explosion with a BANG, which pushed my torturers back. Ripping open the wall behind me. Creating a massive shock wave that made my ears ring. Startling sunlight erupted in to the gloomy room and everyone’s mouths hung in awe as purple flames licked the cindering hole  that had been created. Pressure constricted the air as purple radiating ripples travelled through. Making the it unbelievably hot, like coughing up volcanic ash.

A man appeared silhouetted in the light. He beheld sinister blue eyes and wavy green and purple hair. His skin was pale but even from a distance I could feel the heat that emitted off him. He radiated warmth, a soft tone, natural and unique. Just by staring at him I felt a rush, I felt a sense of familiarity. I felt relief.

He held a skateboard in his left hand; he was dressed like a DJ and had earphones around his neck, buoyant colour’s lit around him with his vibrant clothes as he leaped onto his skateboard made of purple flames.

He giggled, his lips twisting to shape his light laughs.

“Hello.” he proclaimed, “And goodbye.” he laughed. Disappearing from where he stood and appearing behind me and grabbing my arm in a soft patter of steps. Moving faster then light whilst surrounded by the purple flowing flames which emitted around him as persistent followers.

“Told you I’d save you Mex.” he said as he ripped my bonds. It was him, my light and darkness; I could forget the world but not him. The moment I looked at him I felt a rush. How could I ever forget my best friend?

“Thought you lost me Mex.” he cackled while he wrapped me in purple flames and we vanished in his trail of light.
